SATURDAY'S COVER(ed) # 28

Halloween's coming - - so we need more spooky skeletal pals to gaze upon eh? :)
The above art if from GRAVE DIGGER'S 9th album ( The Grave Digger, released in 2001). GD is a German Power Metal band. They're pretty good if you like speed metal with rousing, anthemic choruses and fantasy-tinged lyrics. I like 'em, though they're not in the same league (IMHO) as RHAPSODY OF FIRE, HELLOWEEN, SONATA ARCTICA, HAMMERFALL, and a few other bands that I enjoy a bit more.

I don't own this CD but have heard the third track "RAVEN" and can attest it's a very 'meaty' metal-esque (and good) take on Poe's poem by the same name. I have not heard track 6 (yet) titled "THE HOUSE" but have read that it too was inpsired by Poe (Fall of the House of Usher). Indeed, the whole album is Edgar Allan inspired according to the reviews I've read. Check them out on YouTube or Grooveshark to see if they're to your liking.... might make a nice Halloween musical discovery.

I don't know who the artist is, but I like his work here: the fog on the tomb-stones, the raven on Mr. Death's right shoulder, and the moon-lit night sky.

  1. Hi! R.E...
What nice cover artwork and thanks, for sharing the info(rmation) about the metal band and links too!

    R.E.,
Over there on Jon K., Shawn Robere, and Rozum's blog someone said they didn't know which image Of Price to use...Therefore, they plan to use all the images in the month Of October. I guess that I will do that too!

    By the way,
Thanks, for stopping by and leaving a comment too!

  2. Greetings DeeDee! I agree, one can't have too many pics of the Grim Reaper around Halloween. I might follow suit in using all the photos of Vincent Price that they have available over at John & Shawn's site! Thanks for the tip.
